On a merged calendar the text in the legend is black. See this link: http://www.enutshells.net/profiles/Clusters/Sac_Connect/scc_calendar_3763.htm

Also, nothing seems to happen when I uncheck the box...

Some of your site's CSS was clobbering localendar's. We've been able to put a workaround in place so you should be all set.
