By default, I would want to be reminded for every entry I create (let's say 1 day in advance). It seems that I have to set this reminder explicitly for each entry as I create it. Can this be added as a default in the options? (Note all my entries are private - no public events in the calendar I'm using).

There is currently not an option for setting default reminder information. If you open an existing event where you've set this, you can always change it and use the "Save as Copy" button to create a new event with your reminder information already set.
