Last week I changed the 'Today' background color from the default pale yellow (?) to black, and the date to white. All was working just fine. But a strange thing happened tonight when I looked at Localendar on my website: http://www.ottawapark.org/calendar-ottawa-park-toledo.html. There was NO date shown for 'Today' (May 18) OR for May 19. The background colors were fine. When I logged on and went to My Calendar, the date display was fine. So I changed the 'Today' background color to dark gray, saved the colors and went back to my website. Everything then displayed fine. I then changed the background color back to black, and resaved. Again, the dates display just fine on my website. Any idea what might have caused this to occur? (I like the dark gray background for 'Today' better, so reinstalled it.) Harry |

The same problem is occurring again today. Yesterday I changed the 'Today' background to dark gray. Now I can see what is happening. For today (May 19) Localendar has set the date color to black, and set the May 20 date color to white, rather than vice versa. So somehow Localendar is getting the date of 'Today' and the background of 'Today' out of sync with each other. My Profile shows the correct time zone (Eastern time), although it appears your server clock does NOT consider daylight savings time. Please take a look at this and let me know how to solve the problem. EDIT: 10 minutes after I sent the above information, the date colors and the background colors are now correct. So this must be an intermittent problem or something similar. Harry ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by OPwebmaster at May 20, 2015, 3:30:41 AM] |

This is at least the third consecutive day that the same problem is occurring. I checked our calendar this AM and this afternoon, and everything was fine. At 11:15 PM (Eastern Daylight Time) today, the date text colors for 'Today' and the following day were out of sync--just like before. At 11:45 PM, everything was fine. So with only three days of limited data, the problem has occurred (or at least that is when I noticed it) in the 10 PM to 11:45 PM time period. But the time does not appear to be exactly the same each day. Harry ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by OPwebmaster at May 21, 2015, 3:50:52 AM] |

Since anyone in the world can be looking at your localendar (and hence from a different timezone), the highlighting of "Today" occurs on the visitor's local browser. A bit of code runs in the browser that asks what Today is, and then updates the appropriate cell background color on the calendar. Regarding the colors being out of sync.. I would assume this issue would have come up by now if it were a global problem. I'm not able to duplicate it on my side. The next time it happens, I would suggest clearing your browser cache first and seeing if the issue is corrected. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Marc: You said: >>The next time it happens, I would suggest clearing your browser cache first and seeing if the issue is corrected.<< At 10:45 PM Eastern Daylight Time this evening (5/22), I logged onto: http://www.ottawapark.org/calendar-ottawa-park-toledo.html and the problem reappeared [the date text color (i.e., 22) for today and for tomorrow are reversed, so they appear to be not there]. I have 5 browsers on my desktop computer, and 3 on my laptop. ALL exhibit the same problem. I cleared the cache on 3 on my desktop, and 2 on my laptop. That did not fix anything--the problem still exists. It is clearly just a display issue, because if you hover the mouse over the date, it changes shape. And if you click there, Localendar switches to the Day view. And the problem also occurs running my calendar on the Localendar website: http://www.localendar.com/public/OPwebmaster?rss_link=false It is now 12:06 AM EDT. The problem has just now disappeared. So it certainly seems to have something to do with the time of day. I recognize that people can access Localendar from any time zone in the world. I have no idea if the problem is associated with the GMT equivalent of my timezone (12 AM EDT =4 AM GMT) or not. I just provide that information as an observation. And unless you set the 'Today' date text color (i.e., 22) to the same as the background color of every other day in the month, you might not recognize the problem. Marc: Since you have not been on line for a while, I have been doing more testing. As I said, I live in the Eastern Time Zone (daylight time now), so the times I give you reflect Eastern Daylight Time. I have no idea if this is a GMT time issue, or one that occurs at the same local time zone hour (i.e., occurs at 11 PM Eastern Daylight Time, and also 23:00 UK time). EVERY night, since the 23rd, when I log on about 11 PM EDT, the problem is there. It disappears about 12:05 AM or so the next day. Tonight, I looked at the sample browsers on your website. Your Special Effect (2), on weekdays, displays a white date on a brown background for 'Today', and I display a white date on a gray background for 'Today'. When I ran into the problem with my calendar tonight, I went to Special Effects (2), and it has the SAME problem--The white date is shown by mistake on the next day (in this case the 28th), and disappears into the white background. If you have a tool such as ColorPic (free at http://www.iconico.com/colorpic/) you can see colors at a pixel level. Almost all of your other sample calendars change the color or the text somewhat on the day AFTER 'Today'! These include your 2015 Calendar, your Dynamic Include, Custom Calendars, Merged Calendar, and Local Weather Forecasts. Unless you use something like ColorPic or look very closely [for all of above except Special Effects (2)], you would never notice the problem. As I mentioned in the last post, I tried clearing all the browser caches, as you suggested, and it made no difference. Tonight I looked at your sample calendars on two browsers on a 3rd computer I have, which have NEVER opened a Localendar before. The problem exists there also. So please spend some time and investigate what might be causing this. Test with my Localendar: http://www.ottawapark.org/calendar-ottawa-park-toledo.html and/or your Special Effects (2). You need to check shortly before and after midnight your local time, and also shortly before & after 4 AM GMT. And you need to investigate during the week, because many of your sample calendars use different colors for weekends, which can mask the problem. It is very frustrating, and certainly limits the ability to use different colors for 'Today'. Marc: I think I have found the problem with the 'Today' text color that I have been frustrated about in this thread. That is the good news. The bad news is, it is a Localendar problem, so you have to fix it! As you said in an earlier thread, the 'Today' BACKGROUND color will be determined by the home time zone of the user. To be specific, it is the Windows Date & Time function on a person's computer. I confirmed that by changing the current date several times on my Windows Date & Time function, and the Localendar 'Today' background color always moved with the change. But the text color never did. What I found was, the text color changes NOT with the home time zone of the user, but with GMT. And in an different thread, you said the Localendar servers now run on GMT time. Where I live, 8 PM EDT=0 GMT (or midnight). I have tested my conclusion for several days by observing what my Localendar does at 8 PM EDT. Sure enough, as soon as I pass 8 PM EDT/0 GMT, the text color changes. Example: May 27 (both EDT & GMT). 'Today' background is dark gray, and text is white (my color settings for 'Today'). May 28 background is white, and text is black (my color settings for weekdays). May 28 GMT & May 27 EDT. May 28 background is still white but text has been changed to white, so the text is invisible. May 27 background is still dark gray, but text has been changed to black, so text is almost invisible. The clickable link to the Day calender is still functional, you just cannot see the text. May 28 (both EDT & GMT). 'Today' background is dark gray, and text is white. May 29 background is white, and text is black. As I said in an earlier post in this thread, you can see this effect on weekdays on your Special Effects (2) Localendar as well as on my website Calendar page: http://www.ottawapark.org/calendar-ottawa-park-toledo.html. Assuming your local time zone is not 0 GMT, look as either of these two Localendars just before and after 0 GMT and also just before and after midnight your local time. You will see the problem. You mentioned that you had not had complaints about this. It takes a specific set of circumstances. The 'Today' text color one picks must be identical or very close to the background color of your weekdays, and the background color of 'Today' must be identical or very close to the text color of your weekdays. That condition is met for both my website Localendar and your Special Effects (2). Also, the greater the times difference between the home time zone of the user and GMT, the broader the time span for someone to see the problem. Please check into this. If I need to fill out a Support ticket, let me know. Harry |

That is a long and thorough explanation :) I believe we can verify exactly what you stated- and hopefully we will have a complete fix out this evening. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Marc: Thanks for your quick work. But there is still a slight problem somewhere. The 'fix' works on your special effects calendar 2, and on my calendar when published on your site: http://www.localendar.com/public/OPwebmaster?rss_link=false. But there is a problem with the 'Today' date text color on my website: http://www.ottawapark.org/calendar-ottawa-park-toledo.html The Today' date text color is black, and it should be white. This occurs continuously throughout the day. It is not a browser cache issue. I went to 'My Calendar' on your website. Under the Publish option if I choose 'my calendar in an <iframe>', the Preview looks fine. But if I choose 'a fully-interactive embedded calendar' which is what I use, the Preview displays the problem. So another small tweak is required. Harry |
