Is there an option to send out email reminders now. I see reminders for set times before the event but not an option to send it at the present time.

Nope - at this time event reminder emails are just that - reminders. We don't send immediate emails (more like notifications) as these could easily be manipulated by spammers to "whitewash" their slimy messages (which we are already constantly fighting back against)
