For the year view, the color of the Day is set depending on if the day has events or not. It is not decided by the category of the event (because there could be multiple events on that day - which one to chose?) However, I think you can get to what you want - assuming all your events are "All Day" Under Options->Colors, set the background color of your weekdays (and weekends if desired) to Green. In your CSS, change .localendar-hasEvents to background:red.
