I am new to this. Is there a way to not have a time frame for an event show on the calendar?

Simply use the "All Day Event" option. That's what I do and then put the time in my event title if I need to designate a time slot.

And on another note; I believe if the start time and end times are the same, only the start time will be shown.

If you make the duration 0 hours and 0 minutes, only the start time will be shown.
