I was wondering if there is anyway to disable the pop up windows for event details since most people of some sort of pop-up blocker. Could they maybe go to a new page in the same window that had the details of an event? I have details entered on most of my events and I need EVERYONE to be able to see them since the details include such pertinent information as Address, Dress Code, etc... for our performances! Hopefully someone knows how to fix this!! Thanks, alamoangels |

The only way to disable the pop-ups (yet still show the event description) would be to use an alternative view style that always shows the title and description (as opposed to the month-block view). I'll include an example in the sample page I'm building for you. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |

Hi there Macfirstchristian -- I wanted to let you know that I found a workaround to the pop-up windows!! (I have actually copied my explaination of the workaround from my reply to support about a similar issue but I figured that you might or might not see that post so I am posting that workaround in this thread as well. Hope this works. If you have any questions don't hesitate to drop me an email @ webmaster@alamoangels.org ![]() ![]() *************************** Now for the directions on the workaround... 1) For the calendar that I have embeded on my website I have actually taken the MS Publisher print version of my calendar & turned it into a single GIF image block that takes up most of the page. I have then used image maps to create a hotspot over each event. The image map program that I used is called MapEdit. It is a really AWESOME shareware program that is only $15 and what's even better is that if you are purchasing it for a non-profit organization, then the cost drops to ZERO, ZIP, NADA... AS IN FREE!!! Here is the link to their website http://www.boutell.com/mapedit/ 2) For the links to the events, I have finally figured out how to incorporate the work that I have done in localendar into my own site. For the longest time I couldn't figure out how to link directly from the hotspot on my calendar to the event detail pop up on localendar. The workaround for that is this... When you are in the viewing mode (i.e. not signed in to the administrative area of your calendar (or you can simply go directly to your public calendar in a separate window) and click on the event to bring up the pop-up. Once the pop-up is up then you can right click anywhere on that window and select "View Page Info" (at least that is the command from within Firefox) and it will give you the actual URL for that particular pop-up window. I then copied that URL and pasted it into the field in my image mapping software that asks for the link that the visitor would be directed to when they click on the hotspot. When you enter the url that you have copied from the page info of the pop up, you will see two other fields in that window that you will want to fill in... 1) The ALT tag information - This is especially important if you have ANYONE in your congregation or even in the community that you serve that is either blind or visually impaired! The ALT tag allows people who use adaptive technology (such as screen readers) to read & access the internet (as well as other programs on their computers. ALT tags also help with search engine rankings because when the spider bot goes to your website it looks ONLY at the plain code version so if there is information that is in an image format, the spider bot will not be able to see that information. The same is true for screen readers, The screen reader software looks ONLY at the plain code. 2) There is also a field labeled "TARGET". It says that it is usually left blank, and that would true MOST of the TIME. If you want the event detail page to pop up in the same browser window, then leave it blank, but there can be some potential problems with this and I will explain that in a minute. It is by far better to have the event detail page from your localendar open up in it's own window or tab. This is because on every event detail page there is a "close" button that appears below the description of your event. If you have the event detail page that was originally intended to be a pop-up window open in the same window that your website is in, then the visitor might accidentally click on the close button and not realize that they actually left your website as well as the event detail page when they were only meaning to close the event detail. Since sometimes I tend to ramble to the point where people can't follow me, I have included an annotated screenshot of the "Object URL" screen in MapEdit, where you enter the URL ![]() 3) One of the other wonderful advantages to using localendar vs. simply making your own event detail pages (other than the amount of time saved!!) is that I can also create a link to the list view of events for that month, without RE-ENTERING the data. This is especially important if you have a clientel (as we do) that would be rather likely to be visiting your website via a screen reader for the blind (i.e. JAWS) or other adaptive text to speech technology. I have finished the January calendar and it is up on my site. This is a really good example of how it turns out once you complete the image mapping. You can visit it by clicking here If the above link does not work you may simply copy & paste the following URL: http://www.alamoangels.org/EventsCalendar08/January_08.html ![]() Take Care, ~alamoangels ![]() ![]() |

pop-ups be damned!!!! Just for fun, add a new event and make the following the TITLE <a href='http://www.google.com' target='parent'>Testerooni!!!</a> If you have an information page for an event, you can link directly to it, preventing a pop-up. It works in the week, day, and month style.... This might not do much for people with single events, but for those of us who have lots of repeating events, it opens some nice possibilities... For two examples of how this works, and makes life better, check out my web site http://www.djjamie.com/calendar.htm click on one of the "shady oaks" dates, sunday, wednesday, or thursday.... or the "penny annie" date on friday. It takes you directly back to my info page on thos evenues.... I am accepting gratuities in the form of free subscription to localendar for life...in case anyone wants to set that up...lol well, I'm off to play! ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- Peer-Support Specialist ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jamiecd77 at Jan 29, 2008, 7:19:37 PM] |

Two great ideas! Thanks for the contributions (and I can't believe I didn't think of the anchor tag in the title trick first!) ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |
