sad If I have to choose between Google ads and no calendar, the calendar loses. Ads are intrusive to say the least and my clientel has nothing good to say about them.

For $9.95 a year (cheapest premium service) I finally broke down and just became a paid user to get rid of them.

Looks alot better without the ads. Less headache and now happy again biggrin

BQYC, if you want to play games like this, you're using the wrong calendaring service. Trying to "hack" the site with garbage events, malicious javascript, etc is not something we appreciate.

BQYC, you have used the service for 3 years at no cost while other members have subsidized your account. It's unfortunate that the "Bay of Quinte Yacht Club" cannot afford 83 cents a month and must resort to garbage events on their calendar.

Continued behavior of malicious intention will result in removal of your account from the system.

Really. So are you saying that your "free" service is being paid for by premium account holders and not by ads? Is this part of your business model?

So if I pay for a premium subscription, does that mean that I'll be paying for you to provide a free service to others?

And the ads for Playboy, Dating services and Hooters, which your partners have installed in various free calendars, are generating no revenue for you?

See, everyone understands why you have ads, and making the above comment just does not present your case well at all. And it's really quite clear that the embedded ads are just not on. If you were not insisting that paying subscribers needed to have a PayPal account, I'd sign. Immediately. Just to stop these ads. But until then, I won't.

83c per month is nothing. That is NOT the issue, as I have already said on several occasions. Read my posts. PayPal subs is logistically impossible for us. Quite apart from the cancellation issues which I have already seen in this forum, and which can be reviewed by your customers, unless these posts have been deleted as well.

Meanwhile, I see lots of posts about attempts to cancel the calendar service. Can you not see the pattern here?

For a free calendar user, you certainly like posting with incomplete information.

Ads and subscriptions subsidize the operating costs of localendar.

So if I pay for a premium subscription, does that mean that I'll be paying for you to provide a free service to others?

That is correct. The paying subscribers help subsidize the service for non-payers such as yourself. In addition, they receive access to other features and benefits (no ads, calendar merging, secure calendars, etc)

And the ads for Playboy, Dating services and Hooters, which your partners have installed in various free calendars, are generating no revenue for you?

Those ads are not in keeping with Google's AdSense policy, yet they allowed them to slip through. As soon as we became aware of them, we removed them. We are not going to show ads for content we find objectionablw.

See, everyone understands why you have ads, and making the above comment just does not present your case well at all. And it's really quite clear that the embedded ads are just not on.

I'm sorry you are having trouble understanding that neither income stream is sufficient in itself.

You are not required to have a Paypal account. There is a radio button at the top of the PayPal invoice with the option:
No PayPal account? Use your credit card or bank account (where available).
In fact, this is the default selected option.

Many members choose to pay by check. I do not recall seeing you ask about alternative payment options

We have not deleted any posts regarding this issue. The only reason your post was removed was because it advocated behavior in conflict with the terms of service you agreed to when you joined.

Meanwhile, I see lots of posts about attempts to cancel the calendar service. Can you not see the pattern here?

Yet strangely, none from you... As I mentioned, we are (per your own observation) not deleting posts.

If you feel the need to continue this discussion, please consolidate your posts.

I'd like to draw your attention to your post of Feb 20th 2009 where you responded to my complaint that I had to take out a PayPal subscription:

Yes - this is how Paypal grows their community. Alas, it is also how they have become the dominant online payment service.

We used to use an alternative service to Paypal that didn't require an account. But Paypal effectively ran them out of business. I understand your concerns, but we have to outsource our payments/subscription handling because it's simply too onerous to manage ourselves. For better or worse, PayPal is the leading vendor in this space.

That, to me, indicates quite strongly that a PayPal account IS required. Now you say it isn't. So what am I to believe?
