I want to lock certain threads in the forum and allow some open to the general public and all open to members

When I make them private they only show to the admin correct?

If I “Allow access only by specific members” through localcalendar and create a members access list there are issues.

The calendar on the web page is only viewable to the members not the general public.
I could probably deal with that issue.

How would I know if a member wanted to join our forum?
I assume once they have a user name I could add it to the list but again how would I get that information? Email – phone call

I also looked at moderators but you cannot assign different members to moderate different areas. Admin only for all areas.

Any help….

Actually, I wasn't aware the forums had that capability blushing
You'll have to forgive me while I play around with it a bit.

On other sites I have used, usually there is a public post (in a locked thread) that tells you where to email to request access. Or sometimes there is a public thread called something like "request access" and anytime someone posts a reply to that thread, an admin comes by and gives them access.

But it looks to me like the thread-locking doesn't allow you to delegate to specific users - just lock Announcements or something so that only the admins can post.

The calendar security (under the Admin tab) and the forum security are not related.

I did confirm my initial understanding; forum admins can lock/close threads, but only forum admins can do this and they cannot open the threads to selected users.

I also believe I made a misstatement in that the restrictions specified under the Premium menu tab do also apply to the forums regarding login access.
