I have ticked the box that says "Include a category legend on your public calendar " but I am having no luck - it is not visible.
This is really important for our calender for people to know what the event colour background means.

Please help or let me know what I am doing wrong!

It's definitely visible for me on the link you posted. Do you not see it at the bottom of your calendar? Are you looking at the same link, or are you perhaps publishing it in a frame or something and the legend is getting clipped?
