We've been doing a lot of work to build new Scheduling capabilities into localendar. We want to provide a useful set of features, while still meeting our standard for ease-of-use. And we'd like your feedback.

We're looking for a limited number of members to test out this new feature. If you are interested, just reply to this thread and we'll get you set up. I'll post here when we have enough people.

You can learn more about scheduling here:
http://localendar.com/docs/display/lc/Resource+Scheduling
(videos coming soon!)

and try out a basic Conference Room scheduling calendar here:

Marc:

I moved our notes on this topic from "How do I set up a scheduling calendar for others?", since this seemed to be the more appropriate location.

Happy to enable this beta on a different calendar for you: what's the member name?

Member Name - ScheduleTest

This is a 30 day trial version of Localendar. Expires 8/16/2015.

We've been doing a lot of work to build new Scheduling capabilities into localendar. We want to provide a useful set of features, while still meeting our standard for ease-of-use. And we'd like your feedback.

and try out a basic Conference Room scheduling calendar here:
http://www.localendar.com/public/schedsample1

I have been doing some testing with Resource Scheduling on a calendar which was set up for that purpose: ScheduleTest. I am running this on a Windows 7 PRO SP1 (64 bit) computer, and using the latest version of Firefox.

I think the concept is great. I do have some questions and suggestions. [If the video was available it might be able to answer some of them--not sure]

1. On http://www.localendar.com/public/schedsample1, there is text at the bottom of the calendar, which says: "Conference Rooms can be reserved M-F etc, etc.". How and where did you enter this type of text? I can't find any place to do that. Is that the Calendar Footer entry on the General Options screen?
2. On the same link, you display the 'Show All' category. I have created two custom categories. They show, but 'Show All' does not. Also, even though I have NOT checked 'Hide default localendar categories...', they do NOT show either. I don't have this problem with any of my other Localendars.
3. This suggestion affects all of Localendar, not just the Scheduling Option. The 'Save' or 'Save Preferences' etc. buttons are sometimes in the middle of the screen, sometimes at the bottom, and sometimes top and bottom. With so much information on each page, it is easy to miss them, and nothing gets saved. Could you make them more distinctive, such as red letters on a black background? Anything that would quickly stand out.
4. I think the providing of a link that one must write down or remember if a change needs to be made to an 'Add Your Event' entry is too difficult. Especially if one has made multiple entries. Since each person who makes an entry is required to supply an Email address, could that be used instead?
5. On the popup 'Add an Event' screen, it appears from the text that the Email address is optional, when in fact it is not. I think the text should note the Email address is required.
6. I believe it would be easier for some users if the person who owns the license could create a 'master' Add Your Event' page, so that folks who wanted to add would just have to fill in a form, rather than being able to write any Description that they wish. Depending on what is being scheduled, a 'master' could negate any possible confusion.
7. What is the difference between this Resource Scheduling feature and the 'Allow Visitors to Add Events' feature available in the Webmaster Premium Plan? I only have Personal Premium in my Localendars, so I can't access that feature.

I can answer most of these...
1) The text about when rooms are available was just added as a regular calendar Footer
2) Not sure I understand.. what's the account you are testing this with again?
3) Red on black is a little scary, but all the pages under Options are due for a little redesign
4) Alas, the email address isn't unique for events, nor would that be as secure
5) OK
6) We already anticipated users asking to add custom fields on this screen (I think I mentioned that to you in a post somewhere smile )
7) 'Allow Visitors to Add Events' is powerful, but "dumb" functionality. You can't control when people can schedule events, and you can't stop people from scheduling events on top of one another. You also can't use this feature as an option to schedule multiple resources (be it sharing a conference room, borrowing a wheelbarrow, or booking appointments)

Marc:

Thanks for all the info. I know you are getting blurry eyed reading all my recent posts.

But it appears to access the calendar requires a User ID and Password. I don't have the Sharing feature, unless it was initially available (this is tested on a free calendar and the initial time limit has expired).

So if you can't access it, let me know and I will send you the code.
