Just wondering what happened this time.

My calendar was off-line at least most of the morning today. This isn't helpful to my newsletter subscribers and users of www.ottawabluesjazz.ca when my Monday weekly newsletter refers them to the calendar to check out all that's going on in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and the general area.

As localendar.com itself was also off-line, it wasn't even possible to find out what was wrong and when it might be expected to get resolved.

Just for info because the outage so far seems when it's happened to have coincided with the release of my Monday newsletter and my subscribers depend on a tie-in with the my Localendar calendar on its receipt and it's never predictable when this outage will occur, here's the extra work I've had to do to have a back-up plan they can use.

Once my newsletter is ready, I select & copy the calendar, drop it into MS Word, save it as an HTML file that I have a link to in my newsletter so my subscribers can see at least the basic event list for the week.

While the outage may happen only once in a while, until I'm convinced that the providor service Localendar relies on and has failed a couple of times in the last few months to live up to their service commitments, I have no choice but each week to produce a basic version of the calendar for people visiting my www.ottawabluesjazz.ca site to have at least minimal info.

Here's a copy of the calendar replicate that I have on line in the event of such outages, the last of which lasted most of the morning and into the early afternoon and made it necessary to send a supplementary message to my subscribers apologizing for the off-line status of Localendar:

The thing is that when it does and as unpredictable as it is although both times when it was off for more than a short time it managed to coincide at a time when the recipients of my newsletter had just freshly been referred to the calendar.

When it does, localendar.com and the forums are also down so we're left with no way to communicate with you guys to find out why the calendars aren't working and when we might expect them to be so we can at least advise our subscribers.

So that's why I've developed a back up plan that at least gives them the basic info so my subscrivers aren't left hanging while ci gets its act together for as many hours as it may take.
