The purpose of the system maintenance outage this past Saturday (6/11/05) was more than just routine maintenance.

We have successfully migrated the localendar.com Data Center to a new provider (cihost.com)

We took this action in response to the issues with our current provider several months ago. Many of you are aware that there was a spate of intermittent outages and availability problems.

Since this effort was a major undertaking, it took months for us to procure the required additional hardware and lay out the migration plan that would make the switch as smooth as possible.

We decided not to publicize our move in advance, lest it cause any complications with our current provider before the move was finished (as it stands, we still have hardware located at their facility).

Our goal, simply put, is higher performance and reliability. But these types of major infrastructure changes rarely occur without a hiccup or two. Please bear with us while we try to provide you with the best possible site.

Speaking of those little "fits and starts" when we change data centers... having a few of them today. Should be nearly finished by now; but just part of the hassle of unplugging servers and moving them around (planned or otherwise)

FYI, the "D2" style of "Today and coming soon..." events doesn't work at the moment. It appears to be the canary in the coal mine, in fact. The main calendar (month view) was flakey earlier, but seems OK now.

In short, there's still some kinks for you to work out. Good luck.

Still feeling some shakeout from the data center move in the form of today's outage. Let me explain:

To move datacenters, we had to reconfigure some temporary servers to shoulder the burden and get localendar up and running at the new location so we could then give our old host the heave-ho.

Well, we still haven't gotten our hardware back from that old vendor yet. But that's another story...

In the meantime, the new machines are pulling double-duty as both a web server and database cluster. And alas, a simple setting that was made correctly long ago on our "real" machines wasn't made on the setup of these new ones. And that led to a situation where a problem occured that led to the outage. Of course, that's been fixed now, but to really get our legs again, we need our hardware back.

That's our hassle to work through sad . Sorry for the inconvenience folks.
