I have been trying to update the colors on my calendar under the options/colors tab. However no matter what computer I try to use the option on, it gives me a page error and now the colors have defaulted to an unreadable combination. I can not access the option to change it back.

The page is in a perpetual loading mode and I get an error message on my browser.

Again, I have tried this from 3 different computers now and get the same result on all 3. There is a simular topic on the forums, but it seems to be VERY old and I can't access it. When I search for the topic, and try to click on it, it errors on me.

FYI, I am using a PC, and have tried this under various O/S including 2000, XP and 98. Java is enabled on all of them as well. The only simular thread that I can access says the problem is due to the user being on a mac.

I have been trying for some time to get an answer on this and have had no success. My only thought is that I may have had it posted in the wrong area... so I am trying this area of the forums now.

Thanks for any input you might have

I re-set your calendar prefs to the default settings. For IE under Windows, you should have any problems changing the color prefs - unless perhaps you have Javascript disabled for our site. In fact, even with Macs there is support for changing the colors now.

First off, thank you very much for reseting the colors. I can at least use them as they are now.

With regards to being able to do it from IE, your right, I should not have problems doing it, but I DO! crying

I do NOT have Java disabled, I have tried to do it from several different computers with different operating systems, and it STILL does not work.

I am at a loss for why I am unable to use this option. Can you give me any insite as to what the problem is?

Thank you

Just a follow up.

I have called two different friends tonight and had each of them log on to my account and try to change the colors.

One was on a Mac, one was on a PC. BOTH of them had the SAME problem as me.

It seems as though the problem is on your end, or, there are 5 different computers (3 of mine 2 others) with 5 different operating systems and they ALL have the same problem.

I am not trying to be a smart ass here, I am just kinda frustrated at this point and not sure what else to do.

Again, any help you can give me would be HIGHLY appreciated.

Regards,

Todd

FYI, it's javascript and not java, but I don't think that's the problem.

I went in through IE, and changed your colors through the normal process (IE6, XP to be exact).

Have you noticed any other issues w. the calendar. For example, if you open an existing event, does the date default to Jan, 2000?

LMAO... I know it is Javascript, Java is a hot substance that you normally pour into a cup. I was typing in slang I guess....

There are no other problems that I am noticing on the calendar.

I am using IE6 right now, on windows 2000 pro, service pack 4

I have used the options/color tab from this system before and had no problems. The problem seems to have cropped up sometime around the time you guys had some down time due to working on things here. I say "around" that time because I noticed it sometime after that when we went to change the look of the calendar.

I have tried the same thing from a machine that is Mac, also one using XP and also one that is on Win 98 SE all with the same results. That is what is puzzling me so much.

I am on a broadband connection behind a router right now, but have tried it from other homes, other machines other connections etc. All with the same results.

Sorry to be a pain, but this is puzzling me greatly and we just want to update the color scheme.

If we get this worked out, I have no problems with subscribing even to help offset the time and effort put into this problem...

Regards,

Todd

Actually, Java is another programming language that can execute in a web browser, so you weren't far off. And people often mistake DHTML *javascript* widgets for *java* ones, which can lead to further confusion. You can actually enable Javascript in IE, and disable Java. biggrin

Is there a little yellow exclamation point in the lower left corner of your browser window when you try to access this function? Just wondering if Javascript is reporting an errors (you can click the yellow ! for more info)

You also never mentioned what the error message your browser displays is.

And funny: On a Mac you should get an HTML form for changing the colors - a completely different page than what you see under windows.

I'm still able to get in and use it w/ no probs. here.

Ok, point taken on the java stuff... lol

I have no explanation for the Mac error/problem. I didn't actually see it, but was talking to him on the phone asking him to try it for me. So I am relaying the problem as he described it to me.

The error that I get when trying to change the colors is

Line: 77

char: 5

'offsetleft' is null or not an object

code 0

URL: http://www.localendar.com/elsie?JSP=PreferencesColors

That is the error message from the "exclamation point" that I get

Hope this helps some

Sorry to be a pain....

Some thoughts for the dev folks...

I think offsetleft is either an IE-ism, or a CSS-2 concept that had very late adoption among browsers. The Mac browser the user is using might not support that kind of CSS technique.

Or, if it was actually offsetleft with a lowercase L, that may be the problem. It should be offsetLeft, with a capital L, and maybe IE is forgiving of the case and the Mac isn't.

There may be ways to refactor the color "popups" without using offset references....instead of making the area an absolutely-positioned floating div and toggling its visibility property between "hidden" and "visible", try making it a normally-positioned div within the same area as the button to trigger it, and toggle its display property between "none" and "" (empty string). While "visibility:hidden" retains the element's space, "display:none" completely removes it from the layout flow, so that the space taken up by the element collapses. This way of doing it is much more widely adopted by browsers and you'll have fewer cross-browser headaches.

Actually, the color prefs editor uses a cross-browser DHTML library, with the idea being that the correct code gets generated for the browser you're using. So, what a Mac user on IE gets may be different from, say, an Opera or Netscape user on the PC.

On a Mac, the DHTML is pretty buggy, so if Safari is detected on a Mac, a simple HTML form for entering color info should be displayed.

On Windows IE/Firefox/Netscape, it should be an interactive WYSIWYG editor.

"Rumors", is the error message you posted from the Mac or Windows? If Mac, can you give me the Windows one. When you wrote
