As a security measure (and due to recent attacks), if someone types in a member name wrong 3 times in a row, they are blocked from further attempts.

If you have a link to localendar from your site, then most likely you have not used our Publish Wizard or have spelled your calendar name incorrectly.

We are clearing the "blocks" regularly - but it won't matter because we only block invalid calendar names. So step 1 is to find out what link you have communicated to these visitors.

Those calendar links are valid; which means by themselves you would not be blocked.

We are confident only IPs from "invalid requests" are being blocked. Which means one of two possible things:

1) Your computer is part of a bot-net, which means it has been compromised unknown to you and is sending out bad requests (to localendar and probably lots of other sites). This happens much more than most people realize.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet

2) You are sitting behind a firewall and thus outgoing requests from your computer might be viewed as coming from the same IP as someone elses computer.. and their computer has been compromised.

The blocking has been extremely effective; we have not had any outages in 6 days and we are still seeing close to normal traffic levels (meaning, we are only blocking a small portion of requests)

That said, we obviously do not want to block any legitimate usage. Once thing this exercise has done is proven out methods for stopping attackers. We believe we have an alternative strategy which will work without requiring the lock-outs and will be deploying it later today.

However, we strongly recommend running a virus scan on your computer if you have not done so recently.

I wanted to mention that we activated our "IP Flood protection" mechanism.

We will still block IPs that are clearly making malicious requests (these requests contain obscene or explicit text)

The big change is that we won't be automatically blocking requests because an invalid calendar was requested (multiple times). Only IPs that requesting multiple calendars every second will be blocked - and even then only for a few seconds.

We are monitoring our servers to see if this solution is as effective as the IP blacklist.

I am still have TONS of issues. The only people able to use the sight are people who bookmarked it on their phone. I event tryed making the stite public. And we are still getting the same error message.

I work for Prince William County Schools. I have always in the past been able to use the sight here. But now it is giving me the same error message it gives everyone else.

I have done the things you listed and I still can't get this work.

Is there another solution that we can use.

HELP!

http://www.localendar.com/public/BDHSCHEER is working fine for me (all the time)

Here is what I think is going on:
First, the people who can hit it via their phones? They are not on your regular network, and their ip address is different.

Everyone inside the school who can't hit it? Most likely they all look like they have the same IP to localendar since they are behind your school's firewall. And also likely: One or more PCs inside your network are sending out malevolent requests, which is why you are all being blocked.

2 favors:
1) Send me the url you are trying to hit if it is different from the above.
2) Go to this page, and tell me what it says your IP address is.
http://www.whatismyip.com/ (wouldn't hurt to get that info from some of your other blocked users as well)

I can check it against my blacklist, and even tell you what explicit requests were coming in. But you would need to track-back on your side to find out what computer(s) are sending them out.

I am having the same problem. I just downloaded this calendar a couple days ago. When I tried to type in the URL, to see if others would be able to view the calendar, it worked the first couple times. Then after I added a couple events as the user, when I tried viewing the calendar as one of my sharee's would, I was blocked.
